Parasnath Hill ( Shikhar ji )

Parasnath Hill, also known as Shikharji, is the highest peak of Jharkhand and one of the most sacred Jain pilgrimage destinations in India. Located in Giridih district, the hill combines spirituality, nature, trekking and breathtaking mountain landscapes. For Jain pilgrims, Shikharji holds immense religious significance as a sacred place associated with the attainment of moksha by numerous Tirthankaras. The pilgrimage traditionally begins from Madhuban, the main base of Shikharji, and involves an approximately 13 km uphill journey through forested mountain terrain. Visitors can trek on foot, while palkis are available for those who prefer assistance during the climb. Local bike and transport options are also available around the base. Along the trail, visitors will find small shops selling water, snacks and basic necessities. However, prices can be considerably higher at higher points of the trail, so carrying essential items and sufficient water is advisable. Budget lodges and accommodation are available around Madhuban and the hill base, making it possible to stay nearby at relatively affordable rates. The pilgrimage area is predominantly vegetarian, with vegetarian food readily available. Best time to visit: October to March, when the weather is generally more comfortable for trekking and pilgrimage. How to Reach: Parasnath Railway Station is approximately 25 km from the Madhuban base. Deoghar Airport is approximately 107 km away. Madhuban is the primary starting point for the Shikharji pilgrimage.
