The Story

Panchet Dam is a beautiful place to spend a relaxed day around water and hills. Built across the Damodar River, the reservoir stretches out beneath the green Panchet Hill, giving the whole landscape a peaceful and open feel. You can take a boat ride across the reservoir, sit by the water, enjoy a picnic or simply find a quiet spot to watch the hills and changing colours of the sky. The dam gates are especially impressive when water is released after the monsoon. During winter, the area becomes a popular picnic destination, particularly around Christmas and New Year. It is also a lovely stop for anyone exploring the Dhanbad–Maithon–Panchet circuit. The Dhanbad district administration officially lists boating at Panchet Dam as one of its attractions.
