Luguburu Ghantabari Dhorom Gadh is much more than a place to visit. It is a deeply sacred place for the Santhal community, surrounded by green hills and forests in the Lalpania area of Gomia. At the foothill, Dhorom Gadh's historic Dorbar Chattani is considered an important place in Santhal cultural tradition, where the community's customs and social practices are believed to have been discussed and shaped under the guidance of Lugu Baba. The real adventure begins if you want to go further up the mountain. A difficult around 7-km uphill trail leads from Dorbar Chattani to the Giri Dolan cave, where Lugu Baba is worshipped. The walk takes you through the hills and forest and gives the visit a completely different character from an ordinary pilgrimage. Every year around Kartik Purnima, the site comes alive with the International Santhal Sarna Dharma Mahasammelan, attracting devotees from different parts of India and abroad. ⚠️ Safety Points The 7-km route to Giri Dolan is difficult and steep, so it should be treated as a proper trek rather than a casual walk. Start the trek early and carry sufficient drinking water, food and basic first-aid supplies. Wear proper trekking shoes because parts of the route are rocky and uneven. Avoid attempting the mountain route during heavy rain or poor visibility. Do not trek alone. A local guide or someone familiar with the route is strongly recommended. Respect Santhal religious customs and sacred spaces. Ask before photographing people or rituals. During the Kartik Purnima festival, expect extremely large crowds. Follow designated routes and local administration instructions. Stay on established trails and avoid disturbing the surrounding forest.
